Using the Pi1541 disk drive emulator on a Commodore 64. The monitor on the left is plugged into the HDMI port of the Raspberry Pi3B and shows the disk drive activity and data flow on the graph at the bottom of the screen. I could not get the OLED screen on the Pi1541 to work properly due to a strange problem with the configuration file.

With a simple cutting of a trace and installation of a jumper wire, the video will become inverted for easier viewing. This also obviates the need for a back-porch generator since the start of the video line is already at black level.

Thank YOU!!
What does it mean if mine doesn’t beep?
Sounds like a rotary phone.
damn she gorgeous
simplify the phrase not the name
Not bad, not bad at all! 😃
Hi! I am getting "auto off" when I try to play a tape on my machine. Any idea what may be wrong?
Dew sensor being triggered?

Why was he so impressed when he has one in his apartment?
He just couldn't believe how nice Maris' cabin was on the ship.
Everyone’s cabin was better than Fraser’s.
@@nickjvideos You have a shower?! My favorite bit is when they're al hiding in the bathroom behind the shower curtain and Maris comes in to gargle.
Well was it?
apparently, yes
Do you remember they use to play music before the open time? What a Classic 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Hi can you play a normal cassettes in them
Yes, but only play.
Relax take it easy
This same trick was used in a music video called”sekai turbine” by susumu hirasawa 😮
How's this video still not famous? It's great quality!
I'm glad you like it. Digital trickery.
@@SO_DIGITAL Seriously, it's better than the original version!
Why does this give me an eery vibe
I had a ZX80 in +- 1984-ish. How come your game is copyrighted 2010? and with a website? Are there really new games for the ZX80? Amazing
Yes, there is. Look up Paul Farrow

What tube you use in power supply?

Great build Albé! An excellent example of a replicated ZX80! Your skills outshine anything I can do at present. The sharing of such knowledge is inspiring & I find these machines still capture my imagination! I always have in mind that it would be fun being able to non intrusively increase available power & protections, put in the 3x cable version NMI generator using IC clamps as opposed to soldering on my original no frills 1k ZX80. Then add as you've done, a joystick port- and or a ZXPAND, max out the RAM, AY sound Zonix style, have a backplane, Chroma, ZX81 network, video stream, relay controller, and so the list goes on. But then, that would be a ZX Spectrum Next wouldn't it? But I think it would be a great challenge with this ZX80 for teaching and learning purposes to have it in its standard form and build up. Also to have the chip mask schematics for the various IC's so we remain in touch with our computing roots in a way. Thank you for a really great website. I've always wanted to send a message or say hi and connect a bit with you or possibly in an ideal situation share/make the mold, produce a case (not 3d printed) with you and screen print logos for the top and bottom case, plastic rivets- somehow in the past five years its rung in my mind to help you finish this! I did see your Gumtree ad. All the best in your endeavors now & greets from the peninsula side Ou Kaaps, San Michel-
Thank you very much!
If you are still interested in PCM adapters - here's discord group where we work on software encoder and decoder for adapter audio: discord.com/invite/tgjaGaw
You are absolutely correct, it does sound very good better than mini disc. Recordable CD killed dat and Dcc. If someone wants to buy a dcc cassette deck, must be very careful, make sure that as been serviced and changed the surface mout capacitors, almost all of the first generation has that problem no exception, this one that you have it some of them has a gear problem. Still my favorites are the first generation it serviced properly, Philips technics panasonic and marantz.
where can I buy this kit?

Having fun ?
yep
Sorry, I know it's KEMPSTON.
Trying to watch Basic Instinct and Red Shoe Diaries like this..."was that a boob? Yeah, that was a boob"
Sound-in-Syncs was originally used for delivering programming to transmitters, but because the picture was unwatchable without a decoder, MNET used it for scrambling their broadcasts.
Same here! Did you find a solution?
It needed a new laser. HOP-M3 laser. I bought three on ebay, the third one worked. Don't worry about the rest of the machine.
@@SO_DIGITAL I tried ordering one as well. The laser I got reads black discs, but has some problems reading silver discs? Have you experienced something similar when you've changed lasers?
@@TEAMTOTALDiSTORTiON No. The black discs are Sony Playstation discs. The infrared laser used has no trouble seeing through the black dye layer. If it cannot read redbook CDs then you may be missing a subtle difference between the "black" discs and the silver redbook CDs. Are the data layers at the same depth? If not, it's a focus problem. What audio material do you have on the "black" discs? Aren't they just CD ROMs?
@@SO_DIGITAL The laser is fitted in an old Linn Karik, and I have tried playing a few different CDs. It can instantly read a black disc that only contains audio (the surface of that disc is black where the data is - an official album release by the Swedish band "Kent") but when I try a regular "silver" disc (also by the band "Kent"), it struggles to read that. It's a really weird problem.
@@TEAMTOTALDiSTORTiON I'll investigate. Perhaps the photodiode gain is too high, causing distortion. I'm just speculating. I don't think the disc actually looks any different in IR. Black or silver. It's just a dye in the polycarbonate. To solve this problem, look for differences between the discs. Readout signal level. Focus depth, data depth....anything. It's an interesting puzzle. It could also just be that the laser you bought was designed to only read the black discs....

Any developments on the project x3 ?
Puedes pasar el cto?
Does it works while record directly from CD player's digital output (RCA) , then play it?
yes. It accepts the digital output from a CD player, turns it into a video signal and then records it to tape.
I mean can we record from CDP digital output to VCR without any adapter?
Cool! I remember seeing in an old back issue of POP ELECTRONICS where a guy had made a binary electronic hand counter that he made of Ne bulbs, little caps, and resistors. It was powered by a single HV battery. 0:25 What is that vacuum tube for?
The tube is a voltage regulator.
Lol. you have a beautifull cat.
Awesome! I've got parts saved up for this very project, I remember seeing it in Electronics Illustrated years ago. I used to buy old EI issues from a local secondhand bookstore. Still a lot of great information in there.
glitchwrks lemme know how well your one works
I hear a rotary telephone dial in the background
Supposedly on some of the first electric switchboards, the number dialed was stored in four bit neon memory cells
I would happy to buy if it not expensive. I is a great idea to have DAT just using old VCR tapes...
Hmmm, I seem to recall this video being longer once upon a time, long ago. I should try this at some point with VHS tapes. Still not sure if I fully understand, but I think I'm in a much better position to ask the right questions 5 years later LOL. The 6 vertical bands are what contain the data, correct? Everything in between is noise variations due to the material used to make the VHS tape?
every vertical band contains data. it just looks like noise
Ahhh, I see. Interesting that there are six regions which more-or-less look identical.
The song is "I Just Can't Get Enough" by Depeche Mode
Great to see a 1960s hobby project built and working, and watch this rudimentary computer blinking away half a century later on UA-cam with a 16GB quad-core machine!
No it's not static. The method is called sound-in-syncs. It was developed by the BBC. It looks like noise because the data is scrambled.
Is the audio data being carried in the front porch of the horizontal blanking? It looks like static there, I'm wondering if that's the digital audio data. (I've seen the same thing in VideoCipher II-scrambled video as well, which also sports digital audio...) Is this VCII-scrambled video, perhaps? It looks quite the same....
The PCM X2 is a PCM to composite video card I developed myself. Right now it can record two 16bit/44.1kHz PCM audio channels to video tape. That's about the limit of the current system. To increase the number of recorded channels would require modification of the actual recording VCR.
Is it possible to get 4 channel ins and outs on a PCM or I need to have 4 PCM cards to do that? And can it be printed on a single video tape?
That is SO cool! How many cars provide this rudimentary "Artificial Intelligence" function of the future today? I have a 2008 Prius Hybrid and I'm gobsmacked that I can give voice commands to my car! Welcome to the 21st century. At last.

Check out US Patent: 4466017 Sync suppression scrambling of television signals for subscription TV. That'll give you a starting point.
Oh I understand that much. Since writing my initial set of comments however, I had the "opportunity (read: they broke during shipping)" to repair a few CRTs and figure out how they work. The one I successfully fixed has knobs to adjust the phase offset of the picture based on the incoming sync pulses. Are the sync pulses truly missing, or are they encrypted with the audio? If the former, how is one supposed to even get a clear picture at all without generating their own sync pulses?!
You'd still just have video. It could be fun as an academic exercise.
Going through my inbox looking for a particular comment tonight (not going well XD)... sometimes I'm amazed at how uninformed past-me is. Nevertheless, given the resolution, couldn't you generate HSYNC and VSYNC... isn't VSYNC gonna be 50 Hz (i.e. line frequency) anyway?
